Experiences

The process of completing the final compilation for this course was both demanding and deeply fulfilling. Bringing together the various elements—lighting, framing, movement, and editing—into a cohesive narrative challenged me to integrate everything I’ve learned throughout the semester. Working solo on this project gave me complete creative control, which was both empowering and daunting. One of the key highlights was experimenting with different camera angles and lighting setups to evoke specific emotions. While there were moments of frustration, particularly when scenes didn’t translate as planned during editing, each obstacle became a learning opportunity. The final product not only showcased my growth as a filmmaker but also my ability to adapt and problem-solve.

Observations

During the compilation process, I noticed how minor adjustments in pacing, transitions, and sound design significantly enhanced the storytelling. I also observed that pre-production—meticulous planning of shot lists and storyboards—played a critical role in ensuring the shoot ran smoothly. The interplay between cinematography and editing became particularly clear, as certain framing choices in-camera impacted the rhythm and mood during post-production. Watching other filmmakers’ works for inspiration also sharpened my eye for detail and encouraged me to take creative risks.

Findings

This project reinforced the idea that filmmaking is as much about collaboration and planning as it is about creativity. Even working independently, seeking feedback from peers and mentors proved invaluable in identifying blind spots and refining the narrative. I realized the power of visual storytelling lies in the subtle combination of technical precision and emotional resonance. Every element, from the movement of the camera to the way light falls on a subject, carries meaning. Above all, this final compilation taught me the importance of perseverance and adaptability—skills that will undoubtedly shape my future projects in this field.
